25Architectural Model of the Hamburg Headquarters

1956Axel Springer’s Hamburg publishing house was built to a design by Ferdinand Streb. It was constructed on the site of Conventgarten, a concert hall destroyed during the Second World War. The foundation stone was laid on November 28, 1950. In the foyer, Wilhelm Haerlin’s large mosaic stands out. It shows two spheres: Occident and Orient, sunrise and sunset. The artist chose a simple explanation: “Day in, day out, morning and evening, Hamburg papers around the world.”
