2014Anniversaries marking the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification have repeatedly provided a welcome opportunity since the 1990s to reflect on these pivotal and fortunate moments in German history. Special editions have highlighted the courage of East Germans, whose desire for freedom was so powerful that it ultimately forced the SED regime to its knees. They have also served as occasions to consider the journey of East and West Germany growing together as one nation.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, B.Z. published a special commemorative edition in 2009, revisiting the emotional moments of that historic period. As a symbolic gesture, each copy included a personal fragment of the Berlin Wall, allowing readers to hold a tangible piece of history in their hands.
