23Ullstein bild Press Photography
1959Ullstein began building an impressive photo archive as early as the beginning of the 20th century, playing a key role in establishing press photography as an art form in its own right. One of the best photographers of that era was Dr. Erich Salomon, who described his photographs as “Bilderbeute” – captured images. Under National Socialism, many of the best photographers were forced to emigrate, persecuted or even murdered.
