1960This typesetting machine, a Simplex 1889 model, was a technical revolution in its time. Instead of setting individual letters by hand, entire lines could be composed and cast in one step – saving an enormous amount of time. It was used until around 1960, before being replaced by more modern phototypesetting technology. Newspapers such as BILD, WELT, WamS, Hamburger Abendblatt, B.Z. and Berliner Morgenpost were prepared for letterpress printing using this Linotype machine.
